Get Ahead With These Fashion and Beauty Trends

When you’re jetting off on a trip, whether it’s for business or pleasure, it can be easy to favor practicality over fashion. A sturdy pair of shoes might get packed instead of a pair of fun, flirty wedges. The jewelry and makeup might get left behind to make room for those boring and, let’s be honest, probably unnecessary extra pairs of socks.

It’s time to change your mindset! Fashion doesn’t need to be sacrificed in the name of travel. In fact, you can stay on-trend, looking fab — even when your wardrobe is confined to a 20-inch carry-on.

Cru Love has reviewed all of the hottest trends in fashion and beauty, and these are the things you can (and should) rock on your next trip.

Fashion Trend | Holographic Pieces

Last year saw a rise in iridescence and holographic statement pieces and the trend is still going strong. You might not want to go top-to-bottom shimmer and risk looking like a disco ball, but an iridescent accessory could be a really fun and easy addition to your travel wardrobe. A tote bag, for instance, could be your “personal item” if you plan to fly, while a shiny pair of sandals will take up very little room in your luggage.

Beauty Trend | Apple Red Lips

Whether you opt for a bold punch of lip color like the models in the recent Escada show or a subtle stain, you can’t go wrong here. It’s a color that works year-round, and anyone, regardless of skin tone, can find their ideal shade. Just ask Editor in Chief of Glamour, Samantha Barry, who rocks a red lip regularly and wrote in the trendsetting magazine that she has managed to convince all of her closest friends that they, too, can be red lip girls. And, the best part about this look? It makes you appear like you’ve put in effort when you’ve really just gotten off of a 10-hour flight and feel like you need a shower.

A tube of lipstick can fit easily in your pocket, so there’s no excuse not to bring one on your next trip!

Fashion Trend | Playing with Menswear

Menswear on women is nothing new (thank you, Marlene Dietrich), but it’s seeing a huge resurgence right now, especially with exaggerated silhouettes and new approaches to tailoring. Lady Gaga sported an elongated men’s suit at the Elle’s Women in Hollywood night, stating “I decided today I wanted to take the power back. Today, I wear the pants.” Similarly, Blake Lively donned a series of increasingly daring, patterned suits in advance of her “A Simple Favor” premier.

A power suit is hard to pack, but it can be done. Don’t be afraid to roll your clothing and then unpack immediately when you get to your destination. Remember to ask the front desk at your hotel for a steamer to get any pesky wrinkles out.

Not ready for a suit? Try a jumpsuit instead.

Beauty Trend | Rainbow Eyes

Of course, you want to be strategic about how you do this — looking like Pennywise the Clown is not the goal. But, from Erin Parson’s bold purple eyes at the Discount Universe show to the sherbet-tinged lids on the models walking for Anna Sui and Rodarte, color is definitely in. Try Huda Beauty’s Obsessions eyeshadow palette that fits easily into your purse and will have you looking exceedingly cheery all the way from Milwaukee to Mumbai.

 Fashion Trend | Neon

Speaking of color, Dayglo is back and better than ever! Big name fashion houses like Prada and Balmain are displaying bright, colorful looks year-round. Lucky for you, you can get the perfect pop of color from affordable accessories that fit neatly in your suitcase. A cute pair of bright sandals would be an easy way to make a splash.

Beauty Trend | Low Maintenance Hair

This will be music to every traveler’s ears. From low key, beachy waves to undone, frizzy curls, minimal effort (when done intentionally) gets maximum effect. If you want to try something super low maintenance that will survive a long-haul flight but keep you looking chic, try a pinned pony tail or a loose bun.

Fashion Trend | Florals

Good news, flower fans, florals were popular last year and they’re continuing their rosy reign for a second year running. Simone Rocha, Gucci, and numerous other designers have been giving a big thumbs up to this trend. The best part is that no matter how you decide to rock it – maybe a lightweight, floral blouse or sexy, blossom-covered dress — you’ll look trendy as ever on your next trip.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to have an adventure – and look good doing it!
